Marion County, Oregon Inmate Search

In Marion County, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office operates the official inmate search tool, a public-facing online portal It provides information on individuals incarcerated in the Marion County Jail.

For individuals in State prisons, requesters may use the Oregon Department of Corrections Offender Search tool to find someone imprisoned in a state prison facility. TheFederal Bureau of Prisons also provides aninmate locator tool for locating inmates at the federal level.

Unlike some city departments in large or incorporated cities that operate their own jail rosters, this is not the case in Marion County. Prominent law enforcement agencies, such as the Salem Police Department and the Keizer Police Department, typically do not operate their own. The Marion County jail’s roster is the primary custody tool for Keizer and Salem arrests that result in booking into the county jail.

How to Find an Inmate in Marion County Jail

Requesters seeking someone specifically housed at the Marion County Jail may use the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Web Jail Viewer, the county’s official public inmate-search tool.

The usual process is to access the jail viewer via the county’s "Adults in Custody/Client Information" page. On the page, users may search for a person by name (first or last) or by booking date (from or to date).

Searches typically return custody-related fields identifying information (e.g., full name, booking number, location, and inmate ID), physical description (age, sex, hair color, eye color, height, and weight), description of charges, and arrest information (arrest agency, case number, and arrest date). Others include court and bail information, such as court type, court case number, next court date, required bond/bail, required bond amount, required cash amount, and more.

Jail Facility Overview in Marion County

Marion County has more than one detention-related facility, but they do not all serve the same purpose. The main adult facility is the Marion County Jail in Salem, operated by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. According to Marion County’s official pages, this "direct supervision" jail currently houses 400 adults in custody.

The county also operates the Marion County Transition Center, which is a separate adult custody facility on the sheriff’s campus. Unlike the jail, the Transition Center is a minimum-security facility that focuses on transition, work release, structured programming, and reentry support. The Transition Center’s official pages state that the Center has a capacity of 144 adults (male and female) in custody.

For juveniles, Marion County operates a Juvenile Detention Center through the Marion County Juvenile Department rather than the Sheriff’s Office. The official detention page confirms that the detention center operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is designed for youth held under juvenile court authority.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office operates the Marion County Jail and the Marion County Transition Center Correctional Center. These adult custody facilities are searchable under a single, online Inmate Search tool, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Web Jail Viewer. It is worth noting that when the "location" field in the jail viewer is blank, it indicates the individuals in custody are housed in the Marion County Transition Center.

For juvenile detention, the Marion County Juvenile Department operates a juvenile detention center, but does not have a separate public online juvenile roster. This is consistent with how juvenile records are often handled more restrictively than adult jail information. In practice, anyone seeking information about a youth in custody would often have to contact the Marion County Juvenile Department/Juvenile Detention Center directly rather than searching for a public inmate search page.
